May 25, 2012, Iowa Cubs at Memphis Redbirds

Charles and I headed to AutoZone Park Friday, May 25th to watch the Iowa Cubs take on the Memphis Redbirds.  We arrived in time to watch the end of the Cubs' batting practice...

I heard bagpipes being played and had to check it out
and, of course, had to take a picture of all those kilts!
We enjoyed some bbq nachos before the game started - delicious!
Then settled in our seats for the game.
Our seats were close to the field and right behind the Cubs' dugout.
Carlos Marmol is rehabbing and was on the roster for the game.  During the game, I happened to look at the Cubs' dugout and saw Carlos Marmol!
Charles called to him, and we got a wave in response!

The Cubs batted pretty well...
and got on base throughout the game...
Pitching was pretty good too.  We saw Marmol in action for an inning...
and saw several guys who will hopefully make it to the bigs!
Here's Clevenger on 3rd, Vitters batting, and Jackson on deck...

The score ended up being Iowa Cubs 2 and Memphis Redbirds 1
GO CUBS GO!!

Grit and Grind Time 04-30-12

The Grizzlies made it to the playoffs again!
On Monday, April 30, 2012, Charles and I headed to the FedEx Forum to watch Game One of the  First Round of the 2012 Playoffs...
The Memphis Grizzlies taking on the L A Clippers.
We found our seats, put on our believe memphis t-shirts and got our growl
towels ready!
We watched the Clippers warm up amid all the boooos...
Then watched the Grizzlies take the court...
for warm ups...
Grizzlies fans all got on our feet...
as the starting line-up was announced...
The Grizzlies huddled up...
Then got ready for tip-off...

The Grizzlies took control of the game early!

Everything (except for a few calls by the refs) seemed to be going the Grizzlies way
on offense and defense during the first quarter!

Z-Bo worried us when he took an elbow and looked to be down and hurt.  After being on the floor for a few seconds, he started doing push-ups.  He had me fooled, but all us fans enjoyed the jab at the floppers!
All us Grizzlies fans were having the best time...
Rooting on our team, yelling "Beat LA" and waving our Growl Towels!
The excitement continued with a buzzer beating shot from Marc Gasol to end the half!

The excitement continued after the half.
The Grizzlies continued to control offense and defense during the 3rd quarter.
At the end of the 3rd, the Grizzlies were up and still playing dominating b-ball!
Since the Grizzlies were up by 20 or so, we decided to beat the traffic and leave the game early.
So after the flying Elvi and Grizz (I love this part of the Grizzlies game!) put on their show in the 4th quarter,
we left the game...
Big mistake on our part!  We left thinking that if the Grizzlies continued to play ball like we witnessed there wouldn't be a team who could beat them.  Well, somehow by the time we got to our car, the Grizzlies' lead had been cut down.  Then on the drive home, we listened to the game and heard the Clippers come within single digits.  Then the Clippers were leading for the first time of the evening.  Then as unbelievable as it was, the Clippers won the game.  I still don't know exactly how that happened.

All I know is that we had a fun time cheering on our Grizzlies; we should have stayed until the end of the game because apparently we were their good luck charm - we left and the Grizzlies stopped playing; and that we still believe.
