'Tis Merry Halloween!

Charles and I decided to turn our pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns!

We gathered our pumpkins from the front entryway and took them to the patio were we could turn on the lights and carve them... We decided that Charles would carve the big pumpkin and I would carve the small one...

We cut off the tops and then came the best part -- scooping out the gooies inside...
It took a lot less time for me to scoop out my pumpkin, so I was finished carving my
jack-o-lantern before Charles even finished scooping out his pumpkin...

I decided to free hand my jack-o-lantern this year, but Charles drew out his design before carving...Such concentration!

I was quite impressed with his design!

The finished jack-o-lanterns!!

Unforntunately, the stem on my pumpkin popped off,

so my little jack-o-lantern is wearing a beret...

We then took the jack-o-lanterns back to the front entryway and lit them.

We decided mine looks like a little friendly ghost and Charles' looks like an owl!

Now we have the jack-o-lanterns ready and the Halloween candy bought and are just waiting to see some cute trick-or-treaters!!

Friday Night Football

The weather has been cooler, but with the cooler temperatures came rain and drizzle all week. While I have enjoyed the cooler weather (sweater weather, finally!), that combined with the rain has made everyone sick. Thankfully, the rains have moved out.
Even though it was still misty, Charles and I traveled to Southaven to catch Friday night's South Panola matchup. The mist ceased after pre-game warm-ups; that left perfect football weather for the game.
As you can see, Southaven didn't enjoy the greatest of turn-outs; there seemed to be many more SP fans in attendance. South Panola won, but Southaven played a pretty good game.
Charles and I left the game early and stopped by Starbucks for a peppermint hot chocolate (another reason to love cool weather!!).

Saturday was another good day in the Willoughby house when it comes to football -- Mississippi State won another SEC upset. GO DAWGS!!

Now, if only our fantasy teams will follow suit...

Yesterday afternoon, Charles and I decided to enjoy an early movie and dinner. We saw Dan in Real Life. I had read good reviews and must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Date Night

So, it has been a while since our last post. This is due in part to there not being much going on at the Willoughby house and in part to a power outage yesterday. I had actually started to post yesterday evening when all of a sudden our electricity went out...and it stayed out for over 3 1/2 hours! (We found out someone had hit one of the utility poles.) Being without something that we usually just take for granted really makes you thankful that we live where we all of the modern comforts available to us.
Charles and I took that opportunity to play football outside until it got dark and then we talked and then I got a little silly. After aggravating Charles for as long as I could, I had to get out and ventured to Wal-Mart where the lights were on. By the time I came back home, thankfully, power had been restored!!
Anyway, back to the planned post...
Friday I came home from work, and Charles asked me out for a date night. We have been trying to eat in more often, so we have stopped our weekly visit to Guadalajara, my favorite Mexican restaurant in Hernando. (Actually, it used to be more like bi-weekly or tri-weekly visits). So I was very happy when Charles suggested Guadalajara - I love their fajitas!! Then after dinner, we went to Books-a-Million and then to see The Heartbreak Kid. We enjoyed it; it was pretty funny and had more than a few classic Farrelly Brothers scenes. Then we stopped by Starbucks to pick up breakfast for the next morning -- pumpkin scones (delicious!!). Such a fun time!

Getting Ready for Halloween...

This month I have been swamped with trials, mediations and appointments, and the weather has still felt like summer. The weather finally decided to turn fallish, and I took a little time out to prepare our house for Halloween.
When fall first creeps into the air, I change out the potpourri to Peppercorn, which always puts me in a fall mood...our house smells so warm, cozy and fallish now!
Since I waited so late this year, I definitely paired down the decorating...

The front door.
I can't wait to carve the pumpkins!
Hopefully the mums will be in full bloom for the trick-or-treaters.

I decided to fill my dough bowl with gourds and mini pumpkins this year.

Once it gets a little cooler, homemade soup will fill the pumpkin tureen, but for now, it's a great cookie jar for oatmeal cookies!

The table is really simple this year

Hope everyone is enjoying fall as much as we are!!
