Tuesday in New York

Tuesday, Charles and I awoke early and walked to an entrance of Central Park...We meandered through part of the park...
to the Jacquelyn Kennedy Onassis Reservoir...
where we saw joggers galore and beautiful views of the city...
after crossing through Central Park, we came across this gate which led into a playground and had a tortoise and a hare on the bottom of it - too cute!
We finally reached our morning's destination - the Met...
We enjoyed seeing as much as we could from the American Wing...
filled with furnishings, silver, paintings, sculptures, and beautiful stained glass creations...
We saw this fabulous table of marble inlaid with semiprecious gems and stones...We also toured the medieval arts wing and saw the beautiful angel Christmas tree in front of a choir screen...
and surrounded by a beautiful creche...
We saw more beautiful stained glass...
and all sorts of armor...
We toured the European Painters wings which I just loved! We saw many Degas sculptures...and all sorts of beautiful paintings.

We saw pieces by Corot...
Degas...
Matisse...Monet...Picasso, including pieces from his Blue Period...Rembrandt...Renoir..Seurat...Toulouse La-Trec...and so many beautiful pieces by Van Gogh...We even found one of the Four Seasons (we first saw them at the Orsay and for whatever reason I really like them), so I, of course, had to have my picture taken with it...We also toured the exhibit on Vermeer and his masterpiece, The Milkmaid and saw many pieces of his work...Charles and I both really enjoyed the Egyptian Wing...
Where we saw statues...
Hieroglyphs...
Paintings from pyramids and burial chambers...
Papyrus growing in water in front of ruins of a temple...
a papyrus scroll...
a sarcophagus...
a sphinx...
and the ruins of the gate...
and temple up close...It was amazing to see the size, craftsmanship and hieroglyphs of the ruins...
After viewing all that art, we were starving, so we had a hot dog from one of the carts outside the Met (There were several carts set up, but apparently there were not all supposed to be. We saw the police talking to several vendors and then all of the carts except for one - thankfully the one whose line we were standing in - closed up and the vendors carted the carts off - we guess to the spot they were licensed to set up on), found a seat on the fountain's ledge, and enjoyed!
We then walked back through Central Park... stopping at one of the many rock formations to rest and enjoy the views...

We saw Cleopatra's Needle... and stopped at a bench to take in the view of the Great Lawn... while there, Charles noticed this cute little squirrel in the tree beside us...He intertained us by jumping from branch to branch and from tree to tree until a dog appeared and scarred the squirrel away!

We then walked to Belvedere's Castle...
and looked for turtles in the Turtle Pond...
We then climbed up to Belvedere's Castle and took in beautiful views of the park and the city...
We then bought our subway passes for the week...
Found our route and waited on our train...
and hopped on the subway...
headed back to our hotel.

We took a little detour for a cupcake at Buttercup Bake Shop...
Then walked back to the hotel for a little rest and get ready for the evening.

We then headed back out to Angelo and Maxie's...
where we enjoyed a delicious, juicy, cooked to perfection steak...
We then went to Radio City Music Hall...
Which was just beautiful with all its Christmas decorations outside and inside...

We found our seats... and enjoyed a prelude by the two organists...
Then it was time for the Rockette Christmas Spectacular which was spectacular from the first reindeer scene...
to Santa's solos...
to the Rockettes high kicks...
to the Nutcracker scene...
The pandas were so cute!to the Parade of the Wooden Soilders...
which I just loved!

to an interlude by the orchestra...
to the tour of New York...
to the dolls in the workshop wishing us a Merry Christmas...
to the finale, complete with more high kicks from the Rockettes!
to the live Nativity...
The entire show and all of the performers were simply wonderful!
After the show, Charles and I sampled roasted chestnuts...
We then walked back to the hotel past Rockefeller Center all lit up...
and its Atlas statue...
We had such a wonderful, fun-filled day!
