I was recently introduced to freerice.com. I hope you all check it out. It is a great site because it helps feed those in need by helping the visitor increase his or her vocabulary. It is set up like the vocabulary section of a standardized test, but for each word you get correct, 10 grains of rice are donated by the sponsors for distribution through the United Nations. As a player, you get a rice bowl which fills up with the grains of rice you receive for your correct answers, and for each 100 grains, you receive a little pile of rice and for each 1,000 grains, you receive a bundle of rice. I must admit, it is quite addictive, and you get a great feeling of helping just by playing a game! What could be better?
Being in this giving spirit has gotten me ready for the Christmas season. I can't wait to put up our Christmas tree this year and add our ornaments from our trip to New York! Every time Charles and I travel, we pick up an ornament depicting that place. This is a tradition I grew up with and have come to appreciate more and more. It makes putting up the tree even more fun because not only is the tree filled with beautiful ornaments but also with each ornament that goes on the tree, we reminisce and reflect on the good memories it evokes.
Charles and I also have a tradition (dating back to our dating days) of painting a Christmas ornament each year. We went to Como's Paint Your Own Pottery Studio yesterday and painted this year's ornaments. Charles painted a candy cane, and I painted a Christmas tree and also a Mississippi ornament. I think that they are all going to turn out great and will be wonderful additions to our collection!!
